National Service Scheme (NSS) PG Unit Dibrugarh University organised its Special Camp 2024 at Jokai 26 Ghoria Gaon, Dibrugarh, from 25th to 30th June 2024. A total of 40 volunteers of the unit participated in the special camp. The camp was designed and coordinated by Dr Amar Upadhyaya, Programme Officer and Dr Pranjit Kalita, Asst. Programme Officer of the Unit. The inauguration program of the camp was started with a cleanliness drive initiated by the participants within the Dibrugarh University campus, which aimed to beautify the campus and set the tone for the community-focused initiatives that followed. Following the cleanliness drive, a comprehensive discussion was conducted by program officers, and they engaged all participating volunteers in planning and organizing activities for the next four days of the camp, which was carried out at No. 26 Bon Kaibarto LP School, Jokai 26 Ghoria Gaon, Dibrugarh. A series of activities like dance, drama, music, yoga, art and craft, and poem recitation were carried out with the school students, fostering creativity and skill development of the volunteers to empower them. Concurrently, community-centric activities were prioritized, such as plantation drives, veterinary camps, surveys to gather community feedback. Following these activities, a community-driven effort was undertaken to whitewash trees and electric posts lining the roads. This initiative, undertaken in collaboration with local villagers, aimed to enhance visibility from a distance, thereby improving road safety measures. Volunteers actively participated in this endeavor, demonstrating their commitment to both community service and safety enhancement within the village.
The final day of the camp primarily featured cultural activities that had been taught by volunteers to students throughout the camp. These activities were showcased before an audience comprising teachers, parents, and community members. A wall magazine titled “Jhunuka”, featuring contributions from students and volunteers, was also inaugurated in the presence of the head teacher, assistant teachers, village head (gaon pradhan), NSS volunteers, parents, and students. The magazine served as a creative showcase of the talents and achievements of those involved in the camp activities. In the closing ceremony, the assistant program officer of NSS DU PG Unit, Dr. Pranjit Kalita, delivered a heartfelt speech, expressing gratitude for the cooperation and dedication shown by everyone involved, which contributed to the successful completion of the special camp. He acknowledged the contributions of volunteers, teachers, parents, and the local community in making the camp a meaningful experience.
