The Centre for Management Studies, Dibrugarh University had its 16th Alumni Meet on November 6, 2022. It was organized under the aegis of Samannay – the CMSDU Alumni Association and was sponsored by the MBA (FT) 2010 Batch. Royal Enfield, Banalata and JSB Infrastructures also supported the meet by being corporate sponsors. The inaugural session of the Alumni Meet was presided over by the President of Samannay, Mr. Abdul Rakib. Prof. Kumud Chandra Goswami, Chairperson of the Centre and Prof. Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar, former Chairperson of the Centre and present Vice Chancellor of Assam Women’s University also graced the Meet as invited guests. The inaugural session started with felicitation of the guests and singing of the Dibrugarh University Anthem. After that, a 2-minutes silence was observed to pay respects to late Devashish Bhattacharyya, a 2005 MBA (FT) Batch alumnus of the Centre who left the mortal world on October 29, 2022 in an accident.
Prof. Rajkonwar in her speech in the inaugural session said that she was elated to be present at the meet and interact with the alumni. She said that the association should not only work towards the betterment of the Centre but also help the Centre realize its Institutional Social Responsibility. She requested the alumni association to use technology like podcasts to tap into the experience of the alumni. Prof. Goswami in his speech congratulated the Alumni Association on its various milestones including its registration under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. He hoped that the engagement of the alumni with the alma mater would continue to scale new heights. Mr. Abdul Rakib in his speech regretted that he could not carry out many planned activities because of the Pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Still, he was happy that the Alumni Association could be registered while he was the President and some new initiatives were undertaken like organizing a Mini Book Fair, a Mental Health Workshop and various online competitions. He hoped that the new leadership of the association will bring in more dynamism to it. The 14th edition of the alumni mouthpiece, Exposé was released by Mr. Pranab Jyoti Das of the MBA (FT) 2007 Batch. Dr. Himadri Barman, the General Secretary of the Association gave the vote of thanks and thanked everyone in making the Alumni Meet possible. Thereafter, the Office of the Association in the Centre’s premises was inaugurated by Prof. Kumud Chandra Goswami in the presence of the alumni, students, teachers and other guests. A total of 69 alumni attended the 16th Alumni Meet of the Centre.
After the inaugural session, the General Body of the Alumni Association was held where Dr. Barman gave a report on the association including the financials. The general body in its deliberations took some important resolutions including creating an Endowment Fund for the Centre’s Library worth Rupees One Lakh. Also, it was decided to organize various programmes and engage in consultancy works to bolster the revenue of the association. A new Executive Committee was constituted with Mr. Hriday Ranjan Das of the MBA (FT) 2010 Batch as the President. The General Body meeting was followed by an interactive programme between the alumni and the current students. The day-long 16th Alumni Meet ended with lighting of candles in the CMS premises and release of Chinese lanterns.
