The Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University has successfully celebrated National Science Day-2020 with the theme “Women in Science” on 28th February, 2020 in Indira Miri Conference Hall. The celebration started with a welcome address by Dr. Diganta Sarma, Head, Department of Chemistry and Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Dibrugarh University, Prof. B. R. Sharma inaugurated the programme. The gathering, including school participants, teachers, research scholars, students and faculty members were fascinated by an exciting Science Day Lecture entitled “Origin of elements: On the contribution of two woman astronomers” delivered by Dr. Sanjeev Kalita of Gauhati University. Later, a Quiz Competition was organized among the school students of secondary level (from class VIII to X). Teams from Salt Brook School Dibrugarh, St. Xavier’s School Dibrugarh and B. L. Beria Saraswati Shishu Mandir Dibrugarh secured the First, Second and Third positions, respectively. The awards were sponsored by Prof. Anil Kumar, a senior scientist of National Chemical Laboratory, Pune. The day-long programme ended with a vote of thanks from the Coordinator Dr. Rahul Kar.
