From July 1st to 7th, the Centre for Social Work Studies at Dibrugarh University organized a seven-day rural camp in Laipulia Village, located near the Assam-Arunachal border in the Dhemaji district of Assam. The primary objective of the camp was to provide MSW students with firsthand experience of rural life, allowing them to understand the socio-economic conditions of the community and identify potential areas for social intervention.
A total of 34 MSW students from the 2nd semester, along with two faculty members, Dr. Ansai Bathou Basumatary and Mr. Bidintha Narzary, participated in the camp. The experience was designed to foster deeper immersion in the community, bridging the gap between theory and practice for the students while contributing to the betterment of the village.
Laipulia is predominantly an agrarian village, where the main challenges faced by the residents include illiteracy, limited access to healthcare, inadequate infrastructure, and poverty. The camp featured a variety of activities such as opening and closing ceremonies, transect walks, interactions with key persons and leaders, voluntary labor (Shram Dan), surveys, street plays, youth meetings, women’s meetings, farmers’ meetings, visits to agricultural fields, and Participatory Learning Appraisal (PLA).
Through these activities, the MSW students had the opportunity to learn from, engage with, and contribute to the well-being of the community.
