On 29th May, 2024, the 12th ‘Someswar Sarma Memorial Endowment Award’ function of Centre for Tea and Agro Studies of Dibrugarh University was held at the Indira Miri Conference Hall. The award was instituted by Late Nirupama Phukan a Sahitya Academy Award winner and prominent citizen of Dibrugarh, in the memory of her grandfather Late Someswar Sarma, a renowned and dedicated tea planter during British time. It was awarded this time to Mr. Nabjot Singh, a student of the PG Diploma in Tea Technology and Plantation Management course of the Centre (2023-2024 batch) for being the topper in the 1st Semester Examination. The program was started by the University Anthem, followed by the felicitation of the guests and welcome speech by Professor. P.K. Borua, Chairperson of the Centre. In his speech, while explaining the history of institution of the award he specifically introduced the Guest of Honour of the function. After lightening the lamp, Ms Supriya Khound, granddaughter of Late Nirupama Phukan said a few words about the renowned tea planter Late Someswar Sarma on behalf of the donor family. Honourable Vice Chancellor, Professor Jiten Hazarika delivered an inspirational speech for the students on the occasion. After that a motivating speech was delivered by the Guest of honour, Mr. George J. Ambooken, Executive Director of M .K .Jokai Agri Plantation (P) Ltd. The brief function was ended with a Vote of thanks by Ms. Monalisha Sangma, Assistant Professor of the Centre.
