The Department of Applied Geology, Dibrugarh University is celebrating the Golden Jubilee of its establishment, and to celebrate this glorious moment the department has been organising a series of Golden Jubilee lectures.
The department organized Prof. Rajani Borgohain Memorial seventh Golden Jubilee lecture of this series and 8th lecture of the lecture series “OUR TECHNOCRATS: OUR PRIDE” at Prof. S. K. Dutta Memorial Conference Hall, Department of Applied Geology, Dibrugarh University on 14.05.2022. The event started with the university anthem. Dr. Diganta Bhuyan, Associate Professor & HOD, Department of Applied Geology delivered the welcome speech and remembered precious memories of past days when he was Ph.D student of late Prof. Borgohain. Chief Guest of the event Mrs. Neeti Borgohain, who is wife of Late Professor Rajani Borgohain inaugurated the event. In her inaugural address she expressed thanks and gratitude on behalf of the family to the Department of Applied Geology for dedicating the petropogical laboratory of the department in honour of her husband. Mrs. Borgohain unveiled the laboratory along with other guests. Dignitaries paid tribute to late Prof. Borgohain by lighting of the lamp. Professor Kalpana Deka Kalita, Department of Applied Geology presented a ppt to pay humble tribute where she recalled academic, research, achievements and contributions of Prof. Borgohain in the field of Geology. He was an eminent geologist, especially in the field of sedimentology, petrology and stratigraphy who served in the Department of Applied Geology from 1990 to 2008. Prof. Borgohain has published many research papers in reputed national and international journals.
Ms. Malobika Bora, Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Geologyintroduced the Guest speaker of this event, Mr. Pulin Chandra Goswami to the audience present. Mr. Pulin Chandra Goswami passed M. Tech in Applied Geologyfrom Dibrugarh University, Assam in the year 1978. He joined as a lecturer in Geology in Science College, Kohima, Nagaland in 1979. Mr. Goswami moved to Road Research Laboratory under PWD of Govt. of Assam and joined as Research officer (Geology) in 1982. He Joined as a geologist of ONGC in the year 1983 and retired as Deputy General Manager (Geology) E-6 in October, 2013 from WON Basin, ONGC, Vadodara, Gujarat. Mr. Goswami has a vast experience in petroleum industry sector working in the Assam & Assam Arakan Basin and Western On Shore Basin.
Mr. Goswami delivered lecture on “Basement involved or basement detached structural style for Naga foothill region? A discussion on evidences”. He talked about the evolution of the Naga Patkai foothill region and stressed upon the basement involved tectonics for the upliftment of Naga hills based on different evidence such as overturned anticline, sharp thickness variation of strata across the Naga Patkai hills.
On behalf of the Department of Applied Geology Prof. Pramathesh Bhattacharyya and Prof. Dilip Majumdar of presented a token of gratitude to Mr. Goswami. Mr. Goswami extended heartiest thanks to the department for the invitation so that he could deliver the 7th Golden jubilee lecture Ms. Tina Saikia, Research Scholar proposed vote of thanks and Ms. Pallbi Borkotoky Asst. Professor of the Department of Applied Geology successfully hosted the event.
